I have this problem which I have always had, but seems to be extremely bad of late.

I seem to curl up my toes (my big toe curls under the top of my foot). I seem to do this when im sitting down and my feet are resting on the ground. I dont notice it at first, but suddenly I will realise how tense I am and that I my foot is sore.

Im not sure if its related but I seem to have a sore ball of my right foot which may be due to an improper walking/standing technique...

Does anyone have any recommendations/advice?

I think I will be heading to see a foot specialist, but any advice which could save me the trouble would be very appreciated!

Any other symptoms? I googled for toe curling as a symptom and found references to MS, parkinsons, dytonia from some psych drugs and other things but it could easily just be a nervous habit. If you started taking any medicines about the time this started happening I'd check into if they could be related.

My muscles can be more prone to spasticity kind of stuff from forgetting to eat, to much coffee, low electrolytes, and other things. Assuming its just a nervous habit you can probably train yourself to stop by catching yourself and saying something like "I'm not going to do this anymore."

Also exercise might help, I know exercise gets recommended for most everything in HL but it really can help with tons of situations.

You're not alone! I often find myself with my feet curled up when I'm seated, in my slippers. I find my toes are warmer this way. I think it's just a habit of mine to warm my toes up - I do it subconsciously as I never notice I've done it.

wear shoes inside, makes it pretty hard to curl your toes.

This is a potential solution, however, there are times when I like to be barefooted inside :\

I curl my toes under my feet as well when I sit. It's not all the time, but on many occasions I consciously catch myself doing it. I sometimes think I inherited the habit from my father who also does it.

I too find it slightly painful to walk on occasion. The pain seems to originate on the anterior part of my ankle, around the peroneous longus muscle.

I try to shift my weight while walking to reduce this effect.

To the OP: Do you have a history of any Neurological or Musculoskeletal disorders or diseases? Any in your family history?

Without looking too much into the post - have you tried magnesium to help your muscles relax? Try and get the chelated version rather than the oxide version normally sold in chemists etc.

It could easily be an effect of anxiety... If I saw someone doing this, anxiety would be the first thing that came to mind. Are you in social situations or other situations that could cause anxiety when this is happening?
